ACROSTIC - FLANDERS FIELD

Friends become family as we stand side by side;

Looking down the line waiting for instructions, then, the word comes through;

All of my brothers and I are weary, nothing but death to keep us company;

No one can escape the horrors before us;

Death is now our life, we’re surrounded by bodies;

Each one, has family they’ll no longer see;

Reeling from devastation and destruction;

Suffering never ends, even when or if we return.

Friends that are left, our eyes tell the story of the destruction of our souls;

Inside, our lives are destroyed as we allow others to live free;

Everyone seems sympathetic when we return.

Look at them all, they know nothing of what we saw or endured;

Daily struggles of the memory of the fallen, did the piled up bodies I had to walk through really change everything for the better?

My Peace Of Heaven

I’m standing in my back garden, the sun hitting my face,
it makes me feel calm. The breeze feels soft against my skin.

I begin dreaming, as I envisage myself in an open field
full of beautiful wild flowers with the bright sun and blue
sky shining down upon me.

In the distance stands a solitary cottage where the spirits
of my ancestors reside.

I’m now in the field running through the flowers with
Merlin (grey and white cat), Challa as he was called (a
pure black cat) and Columbo (another pure black cat).

As I run, the cats' heads can be seen bobbing around
happily and having fun, they are chasing each other.

As I begin to tire, I lay down in the grass with my boys
flaked out around me, I miss them so much.

As the day wears on we have so much fun, but I know I
cannot stay.

I give them lots of love, kisses and cuddles, not wanting
to let go, but I say my goodbyes.

Then I take flight high into the sky.

As I look back, I promise, one day, I will return and I’ll
be able to stay.

Forever.

Reflections Of Grief

Grief is a tornado of emotions hitting you like a tsunami;

Nothing can quell the emotional rollercoaster that has now begun;

You try to see the sunshine through the darkened rain clouds, but nothing seems to change;

The journey starts as seconds to seconds, then minutes to minutes, making it hour to hour;

As the days drag you through time, Grief makes sudden, short, sharp appearances like a bolt of lightning;

When you least expect it, it appears like an old friend.

The Cat Who Fell In Love With A Mouse

Pounding is the noise of my heart;
What is the cause of this?
I raise my head, my eyes transfixed;
I dream of that one kiss.

I hear a squeak, I turn around;
My love, I see running;
I take up the chase, not to eat;
I catch up, she is stunning.

Our eyes meet, we are transfixed;
We cannot say a word;
We go back home, talk for hours;
Friendship has a blossomed.

We see each other every day;
There is never any doubt;
We are together, forever;
Together, starting out.
