HUB CLOSURE DUE TO EXTREMELY HOT WEATHER -- Words on Wednesday - CANCELLED Thursday 25th June 2026

 Dear Writers,

We have received the following message from the Hub:

"Hi everyone, just a quick update about this week.

Because of the extreme heat and our air-conditioning unit breaking, the Hub is far too hot to work in safely.  With temperatures reaching 36-39 degrees, it wouldn't be fair or safe to ask anyone to volunteer in those conditions.

We are closing the Hub Tuesday 23rd, Wednesday 24th, and Thursday 25th June.  If the air con is repaired in that time then we will review and let you know.  We're aiming to reopen on Friday 26th June as long as the temperature drops and it's safe and appropriate for everyone.

Thank you for understanding and for everything you do.

We'll keep you updated."

In light of the above, Penni and myself have decided not to run Words on Wednesday for this week, due to the extreme weather conditions, we also feel we have a duty of care to you all, and that it wouldn't be fair to ask anyone to come out in this heat.

We cannot take the chance that the Hub might open, and we do understand how frustrating this is, as we are feeling it as well, but we need to put everyone's safety first.

If you do decide to go out, please be careful, drink plenty of fluids, wear hats, and sun cream, and please stay safe.
