Words on Wednesday 10th September 2025
Dear Writers,
As you will see in the Artswords September Newsletter, attached below, Memoirs on Monday will be on hold for the next couple of months. We will let you know when they are resuming by including them below.
Please note that we cannot confirm Artswords dates until we receive Artswords Newsletter on the 1st day of each month, so we really appreciate your patience. Just a reminder that the Artswords Writer's Kitchen and Artswords Writer's Cafe now cost £2 per session, but grants are available for those who cannot afford the costs.
Here's your weekly update:
This week's Extra Task:
Select at random, one item from your Dream Jar you created in Group , and write how you can make that Dream come true.
Sneaky peek at next Week's Tasks:
If I were: A King or Saxon, which side would you choose?
Main Task: The Battle of Ellendune (or The Battle of Wroughton as it was also known as), is a Battle between Kings, and Saxons. Write about planning a Battle, what would you be fighting for?
IMPORTANT DATES FOR THE DIARY:
MARLBOROUGH LITERARY FESTIVAL 2025
Marlborough Literary Festival has an event Prose in the Pub event where people can read up to 500 words.
Where: Green Dragon Pub, 12-13 High St, Marlborough SN8 1AA.
When: 27th September 2025.
Time: 6pm onwards.
I have included the link, if it doesn't work, please let me know, and I can forward the original email it was sent in.
What is Prose?
A Prose put simply is when everyday language is used in writing, for example, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. It's the way we usually write and talk, without any rhyme or rhythm in Poetry. In other words, these examples of stories are written in the specific era they were created in, using the language of the time.
I hope this makes sense, if you are unsure, please let us know and we can re-cap on Wednesday.
Another, very important date for the diary, even though we are jumping way ahead into next year:
SWINDON FESTIVAL OF LITERATURE - 4th to 10th MAY 2026 - more information nearer the time.
Happy writing everyone!
Regards,
Penni and Sarah
