Dear Writers,
Please note that we cannot confirm Artswords dates until we receive Artswords Newsletter on the 1st day of each month, so we really appreciate your patience. Just a reminder that the Artswords Writer's Kitchen and Artswords Writer's Cafe now cost £2 per session, but grants are available for those who cannot afford the costs.
Here's your weekly update:
This week's Extra Task:
You are an historian, you research the facts about this case, and you discover more cases linked to Dr Crippen that seem to have been overlooked. Write a piece to bring together what you have discovered.
Sneaky peek at next Week's Tasks:
If I were: A scary halloween character, who would you be?
Main Task: HALLOWEEN - On this day in 1929, USD14,000,000,000 was wiped off the US Stock Market when it crashed. This was the onset of the Great Depression. How do you react to this? Are you a trader, an investor, or the head of a financial institution that would have to close, are you affected by this on a personal level, or are you a reporter?
IMPORTANT DATES FOR THE DIARY:
Write Along Tuesday, (W.A.T) - Central Library, Downstairs
If you are free between 1pm to 2.30pm on a Tuesday, and you are in town, why not join Penni, (Co-Facilitator, Words on Wednesday), for a different style of writing group, by bringing along your own writing projects you are working on.
This is a wonderful time to write with others, rather than by yourself. When writing with other people, you can garner ideas, and help with your writing if you feel stuck. It can be better to write in a group rather than by yourself.
Another, very important date for the diary, even though we are jumping way ahead into next year:
SWINDON FESTIVAL OF LITERATURE - 4th to 10th MAY 2026 - more information nearer the time.
Penni, and I discovered this important event as we passed FIKA:
In case you have trouble reading the fine print once you increase the magnification on your electronic devices, this is what it says:
"Before the Pandemic, Angela Atkinson wrote, and published Swindon in 50 Buildings.
But, even as the ink dried on that first book of buildings, she knew she had unfinished business, so work began on a sequel.
But then the Pandemic and a collaborative book project held matters up. But it's here now - somewhat to Angela's relief!
So join her here at FIKA at 12.30pm on the 25th October to get it launched."
For those of you who don't know, Angela Atkinson is a local Author, so if you are in town, please pop along to support another local writer.
If you fancy a Coffee, Cake, Panini or a Sandwich, go along and support Martin and his wonderful team at FIKA. Once a month Martin kindly puts on an Open Mic for Writers to come together, and read out their work. Watch this space. . . We will add more details once we know when the next one will be held, but in the meantime check out FIKA.
FIKA COFFEE AND WINE (4.7* out of 5* - 40 reviews)
Happy writing everyone!
Regards,
Penni and Sarah
