MARLBOROUGH LITERARY FESTIVAL 2025
Marlborough Literary Festival has an event Prose in the Pub event where people can read up to 500 words.
Where: Green Dragon Pub, 12-13 High St, Marlborough SN8 1AA.
When: 27th September 2025.
Time: 6pm onwards.
I have included the link, if it doesn't work, please let me know, and I can forward the original email it was sent in.
What is Prose?
A Prose put simply is when everyday language is used in writing, for example, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. It's the way we usually write and talk, without any rhyme or rhythm in Poetry. In other words, these examples of stories are written in the specific era they were created in, using the language of the time.
I hope this makes sense, if you are unsure, please let us know and we can re-cap on Wednesday.
Swindon Open Studios
This is a definite must see, it was also on last weekend, and I must have forgotten to include it, so my apologies, but it is still on this weekend. If you and/or your family want to do something exciting this weekend, this is something you can all enjoy together.
What is it?
Welcome to Swindon Open Studios, visit over 140 Artists at our FREE, vibrant, Community-based Art Exhibition. Explore a treasure trove of displays across homes, studios, local venues, and workshops, as Artists share the stories behind their creations. This is an Annual Community Exhibition during which Artists invite members of the public into their work spaces for a chance to see where, and how their Art is created.
Where is it?
That's up to you! It's not a cryptic answer to catch you out, it's the fact that whichever Artist you are eager to see, check the list below:
If you want to see more than one Artist, that's great as the whole family can plan a Treasure Hunt of Artists, something fun for the whole family to enjoy over both days, this weekend. As you can see all the Artists are based in, and around Swindon, making it easier to travel between them.
Our very dear friend, Anna (PeterPod), is actually in charge of organising this year's Open Studios, and we couldn't be more proud of all the hard work she has put into it. If you would like to see Anna, you will want to check out Podpadstudios, which is under Number 25, but as you will see from the above listing there are another 3 Artists also within this Venue.
If you go online, you can sign up to the Swindon Open Studios Newsletter as well.
Here's some information about them:
As you can see, the address, and contact details are showing, plus the bus numbers you will need to use. If you have the brochure all the details of all the Artists are in this booklet that can be found in the Swindon Hub, and other locations around Swindon.
How much does it cost to enter?
It's completely FREE, no matter the location.
Another, very important date for the diary, even though we are jumping way ahead into next year:
SWINDON FESTIVAL OF LITERATURE - 4th to 10th MAY 2026 - more information nearer the time.
Happy writing everyone!
Regards,
Penni and Sarah
