Words on Wednesday 27th August 2025
Dear Writers,
Apologies for sending the email out later than normal, but I have been very unwell, I've already had to cancel 2 arrangements with friends. I am hoping to come on Wednesday, but I will see how I am feeling - Sarah.
Please note that we cannot confirm Artswords dates until we receive Artswords Newsletter on the 1st day of each month, so we really appreciate your patience. Just a reminder that the Artswords Writer's Kitchen and Artswords Writer's Cafe now cost £2 per session, but grants are available for those who cannot afford the costs.
Please note that the Artswords Events will not be running during the whole of August. There are different events for this month only, which I have added below.
Here's your weekly update:
This week's Extra Task:
You receive a letter that's 50 years old, what do you do next?
Sneaky peek at next Week's Tasks:
If I were: A Spacecraft.
Main Task: Viking II Mars Landing - 1976. You are sent to colonise Mars, and are limited to what you can take. Write a piece about why you were chosen, and why you were accepted.
IMPORTANT DATES FOR THE DIARY:
MARLBOROUGH LITERARY FESTIVAL 2025
Marlborough Literary Festival has an event Prose in the Pub event where people can read up to 500 words.
Where: Green Dragon Pub, 12-13 High St, Marlborough SN8 1AA.
When: 27th September 2025.
Time: 6pm onwards.
I have included the link, if it doesn't work, please let me know, and I can forward the original email it was sent in.
What is Prose?
A Prose put simply is when everyday language is used in writing, for example, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. It's the way we usually write and talk, without any rhyme or rhythm in Poetry. In other words, these examples of stories are written in the specific era they were created in, using the language of the time.
I hope this makes sense, if you are unsure, please let us know and we can re-cap on Wednesday.
Another, very important date for the diary, even though we are jumping way ahead into next year:
SWINDON FESTIVAL OF LITERATURE - 4th to 10th MAY 2026 - more information nearer the time.
Happy writing everyone!
Regards,
Penni and Sarah
