 Dear Writers,

Please note that we cannot confirm Artswords dates until we receive Artswords Newsletter on the 1st day of each month, so we really appreciate your patience.  Just a reminder that the Artswords Writer's Kitchen and Artswords Writer's Cafe now cost £2 per session, but grants are available for those who cannot afford the costs.

Here's your weekly update:

This week's Extra Task:
Write a piece about the knock on effect of devastation the Wall Street Crash caused, and the fall out to everyday people who were now penniless.  How did it feel trying to live through the Great Depression?  Don't forget this is the worst Depression in History, and it had a knock on effect around the World.  99% of Countries were affected by this apart from the Soviet Union because they were not integrated into the global capitalist economy.

Sneaky peek at next Week's Tasks:
If I were: A Martian.  Describe what you would look like, and are you good or bad?
Main Task: War of the Worlds Radio Drama of 1938 - USA.  H. G. Wells' book was adapted for Radio with Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre Company.  It was presented in a realistic manner over the Radio using fake news bulletins, leading some listeners to believe the Martian Invasion was real, this caused panic and confusion.  The confusion actually propelled the relatively unknown Orson Welles to fame, and sparked debates about the power of the media, and the extent of public reaction.  How do you react to this?  You could be a listener or a Reporter.  Write a piece about being a believer or a non-believer, after listening to War of the Worlds on the radio.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR THE DIARY:
Write Along Tuesday, (W.A.T) - Central Library, Downstairs
If you are free between 1pm to 2.30pm on a Tuesday, and you are in town, why not join Penni, (Co-Facilitator, Words on Wednesday), for a different style of writing group, by bringing along your own writing projects you are working on.

This is a wonderful time to write with others, rather than by yourself.  When writing with other people, you can garner ideas, and help with your writing if you feel stuck.  It can be better to write in a group rather than by yourself.

Another, very important date for the diary, even though we are jumping way ahead into next year:
SWINDON FESTIVAL OF LITERATURE - 4th to 10th MAY 2026 - more information nearer the time.

If you fancy a Coffee, Cake, Panini or a Sandwich, go along and support Martin and his wonderful team at FIKA.  Once a month Martin kindly puts on an Open Mic for Writers to come together, and read out their work.  Watch this space. . . We will add more details once we know when the next one will be held, but in the meantime check out FIKA.

FIKA COFFEE AND WINE (4.7* out of 5* - 40 reviews)
