21st Century Intolerant | An Anthology of Short Stories
Your challenge, should you choose to accept it...... is to write a short story for our forthcoming collection "21st Century Intolerant". We are looking for stories about characters who find the modern world challenging - whether it's a light-hearted tale of "first-world problems" or a darker look at some of the less savoury aspects of life in the 21st century - specifically, in the present day.
As with all of our Community Collections, there is no cost to you to submit a story.
About Your Story
- Your story can be serious, humourous, dark or light.
- The title of your story is up to you
- It must be set around the present day or in the very near future
- The plot must centre around a character who struggles with an aspect - or aspects - of modern life, whether it's a young person struggling with dating and house buying, a middle-aged person who can't understand modern music and reality TV, or an older person who feels left behind by technology. You choose the frustration(s), the story and the tone. We are sure you can be more creative than the examples given!#
- Your characters must be entirely fictional
- This book is intended for adult readers
- Each story should be 3000 - 5000 words

Avon Brook Hotel | An Collection of Short Stories set in the 1970s
Your challenge, should you choose to accept it...... is to write a short story for our forthcoming collection "Avon Brook Hotel" - a fictional boutique hotel, located somewhere in the Cotswolds. First and foremost - the hotel should be treated as a key character in your story.
The stories must be about a specific guest - or guests - at the hotel, and can be set at any point in the1970s - this fictional hotel opened in the early 1970s, spotless and fashionable, and closed in 1980 - slightly run down and out of favour. This can be reflected in your story. (We are looking for one story specifically set around the opening of the hotel and another as it closes - if you would like to write these stories please let is know. All the other stories can be set in between, at any point in the 1970s.)
This anthology was inspired by the "Park Hotel 1970" in MIchelstadt - a real hotel, still open in Germany, with all of its original 1970s features and furniture. We strongly recommend googling it and looking at photos, so you can visualise and describe the setting
